Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit our homepage, of scuba diving club BLUE MARLIN from Oosterhout NB, the Netherlands. Since we're a Dutch scuba diving club it's quite obvious that our pages are in Dutch. Even more since we focus mainly on the Dutch scuba divers who are interested in our club and/or who want to join a great club in order to practise their wonderful hobby safely in a cosy environment. Duikvereniging Blue Marlin, as we're called in Dutch, is member of the NOB (Nederlandse Onderwatersport Bond = Dutch Underwatersports Association) that is a 'sub-association' of CMAS, which is a worldwide acknowledged scuba diving association. Therefore are scuba dive-certificates of CMAS/NOB acknowledged all over the world. Within Blue Marlin our instructors strive to train our members to become first-class scuba divers. Safety First! is one of our slogans as well as sociability. We make no compromises as far as safety before, during and after diving concerns. But when al diving is done and all's well, we sure like to socialize with a drink (or two), a barbeque or other social event. On Thursday evening we have our regular training: In the winter that is in an indoor swimming pool. And in spring, summer and a part of autumn we train in the dutch waters. Beside the standard courses we also have several specialties for the somewhat more experienced divers amongst our members, e.g. Ice-diving, underwater-biology, nitrox et cetera. We're a non-commercial organisation so we do not want you as a member because of your money, but because you're a nice to person to be with and who wants to dive; in the Netherlands and abroad. And because you like to contribute positive vibrations to the scuba diving club you are member of. The waters of the Netherlands do not have a visibility like the Caribean, the Far-East or the Red-Sea area. Therefore it's very important to be able to orientate very well and to be able to dive guided by one's compass. Also a buddy line is inevitable as a safety-precaution. The most beautiful sites to dive in the Netherlands are at the 'Oosterschelde' in the province of Zeeland. (There are several internet sites where one can find lots of great photos of the underwater scenery of the Oosterschelde.) But since the Oosterschelde is part of the delta of the river Schelde and the influences of the tides of the North Sea are major, the currents can be very strong. So diving in the Oosterschelde requires good knowledge of the local tides and currents: when can one get into the water safely and when does one have to be out of the water. Mistakes are easily made. And we all know where that might lead to. Our divers are (being) trained to handle these kinds of situations. But of course, only following the guidelines carefully, increasing experience, no panicing and common sense will make sure one can dive safely and with pleasure. If you like to know more about our scuba diving club, please don't hesitate to contact us via e-mail: info@Blue-Marlin.nl and we will provide you, when possible, with the requested information. RK |
